Brendon McMechan – Face of the OEA

✨As we are now officially into the 2019 Show Season, the OEA will feature a bi-weekly post called “Meet the Faces of the OEA.”✨ . The post will be about some of the familiar faces that one sees at events during show season. It could be a groom, a parent, an organizer, an official or volunteer … or even an eventer as the case with this week’s profile … Brandon McMechan. . If you were at Grandview on Saturday, you may have noticed that one horse and rider combination in the Advanced/Intermediate division. That was the one and only Brandon and his mount, Oscar’s Wild.

If the name sounds familiar, it should as the pair had an outstanding Royal this past November. Oscar flew over the Horseware Indoor Eventing course, finishing 2nd overall.

Brandon, who trains with Kendal Lehari Eventing, got the talented OTTB at the age of 3.

Personality wise, the two clicked like two best friends. Oscar “tolerates dressage, but he loves stadium and rocks XC.” The bond between the two is remarkable, as indicated in shared posts on Brandon’s Facebook feed.

The 10-year-old gelding and Brandon had quite a spring, finishing in 7th place at one of the toughest courses in North America, Red Hills International Horse Trials, this past March, making Oscar officially a 4-Star horse! The pair competed successfully at their second 4-Star event at the Chattahoochee Hills Horse Trials in April, finishing in 9th place. Brandon has worked hard to bring Oscar to where he is today … and the pair will compete in the CCI****L at Bromont this June.

We love this photo of this dynamic duo, as they were about to take on the OI XC this past Saturday at Grandview Spring Horse Trials, and we cannot wait to see what the 2019 Show Season brings for this amazing team.
